Last week I attended the fourth annual Sustainable Opportunities Summitin Denver. It was a fascinating meeting of the minds on all issues regarding energy, sustainability and clean technology. Having been in the tech industry since the mid-90’s it felt very similar to the pre-Internet boom. I heard companies with fantastic ideas, good momentum and a story tell. From WhiteWave’s employee incentive programto reduce their carbon footprint to Denver Mayor Hickenlooper’s commitment to plant one million trees in the next 5 years, it was an inspiring few days. While most of the companies that spoke are challenged by the current economy, President Obama’s economic stimulus could and should bring renewed vigor. At a consumer level education is key — public relations will be critical to success specifically in the arenas of conservation and recycling.
The LeGrand Hart Energy Brand SalonIt’s no secret that our nation is on the cusp of a true energy crisis. Energy needs continue to increase as our resources decrease. A recent study from the National Petroleum Council (NPC) projects that world energy demand will grow 60% over the next 20 years. There isn’t one solution; we must collaborate as a community and look at a myriad of sources to fulfill the world’s energy needs.
On October 1st, LeGrand Hart will host a private roundtable discussion to share perspectives with energy executives in Colorado who have demonstrated leadership or concern on these issues. LeGrand Hart’s Brand Salon series is inspired by the French literary Salon’s of The Enlightenment period. A Salon is a gathering of intellectually curious people to share knowledge via philosophical discussions. |
